Rashford’s Future at Manchester United Uncertain Amid Speculation and Benchings

Amorim questions 'choices' of Rashford's advisors

Rashford 27 says he was looking for a new challenge after being benched for the 2-1 victory over Manchester city on December 15.

The player was then left out of the 4-3 Carabao cup quarter-final against Tottenham and again against 3-0 loss to Bournemouth on Sunday fueling speculations about his future at Old Trafford with a possible exit in January.

I know these players have so many people around them, so they make decisions that are not the first thought in the player.

“They opted to do the interview as it is not just Marcus.”

Rashford has even netted 138 goals for the club in 426 appearances since joining the senior team in 2016, the United youngster is a product of the Red Devils youth team.

But although he reached 30 goals in all competitions in 2022-23, he has been out of sorts in three out of the last four campaigns and has faced criticism from pundits and audience as for several laboured performances during that period.

Amorim stated he can ‘detach’ himself between those who advised Rashford and his connection with the player.

‘And at the moment my aim is to work hard to produce a better Marcus,’ he said.

Everyone could use a talented young man like Marcus! No longer do I remember the interview now and pay attention to what I notice on the pitch.

About Rashford’s future, the Portuguese boss said that it is up for him and the club to decide on that matter should it come.

Speaking to the wider media before United face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday, Amorim denied the talk around Rashford was a distraction, adding: They carry a large responsibility here because they have been here for a long time.”

They must say that if you have big talents, [we need] big performances, big responsibility, big engagement to push everybody forward in this moment. As with any other player [we] expect them to be the best that you can be.

‘This is maybe one of the lowest moments in our club.’ This is a necessity that we have to accept and thus should be strong.”

Humbled by the Cherries United has found itself in the 13rd position in the Premier League standing and after the Wolves, they are expected to entertain Newcastle on 30 December.

It will be their lowest position in the table at this stage since they were 15th in 1986 when Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed the Manchester United manager more than two months ago.

During a Sunday post-match, news conference, Amorim had to stop halfway through because of a water leak in the press room ceiling.

Asked later how he intended to reverse fortunes at Old Trafford, the former Sporting coach pointed to the ceiling and said: If I were to know, I would fix this club and all of its problems including this one.

That’s what I’ve decided, with what aim? That is so clear for me. I will not say I feel relaxed because, in fact, I am frustrated. But it is a very hard time now, but we will gradually resolve existing issues and find solutions to all the questions.”
